“Keep the flame of hope burning.” We are often told this in times of despair. But how and where do we find hope, and how do we keep it alive? In this talk, Gordon and Hoda explore these questions as they relate to two key political actors: journalists and social justice activists. First, Gordon will discuss the exasperation that reporters feel when facing anti-expert populists who deny scientific evidence on matters like climate change. In the face of such challenges, how do we build and maintain hope? Hoda will discuss hope in the activism journeys of movement leaders, demonstrating how historical and contemporary examples of resistance and movement wins fuel hope and propel struggles for a more socially just world.
